British firm AC Cars is famous for its Ace sports car that formed the basis for the original Shelby Cobra, so it’s only fitting the company is getting into the Cobra replica business. After announcing turbo-4 and all-electric Cobras, AC is returning to the car’s more famous V-8 option.

While original Cobras famously used Ford engines, the Superblower is powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 sourced from General Motors, specifically the LSA. The ‘Ace’ convertible was initially built throughout the 1950s and 60s as a light, nimble British roadster with a relatively small engine.

It became famous for being the first car that Carroll Shelby modified on his journey toward becoming the first American team to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He wanted a light car with a large engine compartment to fit a Ford V8 in, and the Ace was the chassis he chose. He later worked with Ford on the GT40, the car with which he won Le Mans.

For a while now AC Cars has offered the Cobra 378 that packs a 6.2-litre V8 ‘ and if you are thinking to yourself ‘that doesn’t sound like a Ford V8’ then you are very right: it is the General Motors LS3 V8.
