Sometimes in track and field, all teams can do is put themselves in a fighting position and hope for the best.

For Hall on Friday at the Class LL boys and girls indoor state championships at the Floyd Little Center, the Warriors were in position, and the best happened.

The Warriors trailed Ridgefield by seven points heading into the meet’s final event, the 4×400 meter relay. Both Ridgefield and Hall were seeded in the fast heat of the relay. The Tigers won the relay, with the Warriors finishing third behind Glastonbury, and it appeared Ridgefield had wrapped up a state championship. Instead, Ridgefield was disqualified from the relay, as one of its runners threw an illegal elbow at a Glastonbury runner on the third lap.

While you’re here, how about this:

Respected, celebrated Jimmie Johnson proves nice guys finish first

One of the best to ever wheel a stock car announced his retirement this week, and the tributes justifiably flowed in. Respect. Excellence. Champion. Words with significant weight all applied. When Johnson becomes eligible two years after his retirement, the NASCAR Hall of Fame will fling its doors open wide and say, ‘right this way.’

Johnson said in Thursday’s farewell address that he tried to be ‘one of the good guys’ on the track over the course of his celebrated career. That hackneyed saying about where nice guys typically finish? Johnson turned that on its head.

Melania Trump Admits She Wore ‘I Really Don’t Care’ Jacket to Annoy ‘Left-Wing Media’

Melania Trump revealed on Friday that her ‘I really don’t care’ jacket, which she wore during a June visit to migrant children being held in U.S. detention centers, had in fact been part of an effort to troll her liberal critics.

Melania Trump tells @TomLlamasABC she wore the ‘I really don’t care’ jacket ‘for the people and for the left-wing media who are criticizing me. And I want to show them that I don’t care.’ #MelaniaTrump https://t.co/EqEyfZkJvZ pic.twitter.com/2EWeCKB0de

On my radar: La Roux’s cultural highlights

I was so engrossed by this film. Not only is it an incredible storyline, but the shining star is Tilda Swinton: it’s such an incredible thing to do, to speak Italian with a slight Russian tinge, when you’re English. Apart from being amazed the entire time that she was able to do that, I also found it a heartwarming and heartbreaking story: the way that food and love are connected and depicted is very beautiful. Then there’s this incredible sadness at the end, and you get this wrenching feeling. The relationship between her and the maid and with her children ‘ it covers so many family and class issues, and covers them so well. There are parts in it that have a slightly Hitchcocky feeling, especially when she’s walking through the Italian town. The first time I saw it was on a plane, which I then really regretted because it’s so visually stunning. But I’ve watched it a few times since and introduced lots of people to it. I may watch it again this week now that I’ve talked about it.
