Were you following this:

We can’t afford the madness, sisters

I’ll never forget that revelation. Reading that as the mother of a 2-year-old, I cupped my hands over my mouth to suppress a scream of validation as I sat in the breakfast room of our Silver Spring, Maryland, home.

Break.

I was in the same place that same year when I read to my uncomprehending baby girl the history-making news that Serena Williams had won her first major, the US Open ‘ the first black woman to achieve that prize in professional tennis’ modern Open era.

Saturday, I watched the second set of the US Open women’s final with my now 21-year-old daughter, my hands once again cupped over my mouth as Serena Williams appeared to begin a slow descent into her own world of madness.

Interested in a career in education in Japan? Meet companies, network and maybe even secure a job offer!

Better to be a fluent English speaker-fluent Japanese is not needed on the international tennis circuit…

Further on.

Its a nice idea, but I doubt anyone who doesn’t look Japanese will be as accepted as being Japanese by Japanese.

You can tell what people think by the way they ask about someone’s looks and features, ‘are you Japanese or are you a half?’ ‘ This implies you’re not really Japanese unless of course you win a Grand Slam tournament.

A definitive ranking of which sports brand is the most try hard

Sportswear is no longer just for the gym, and hasn't been for quite some time. On campuses and even in clubs, you'll see people donned in baggy vintage Nike t-shirts, sad boys wearing the same grey Slazenger sweatshirt day in, day out, and how come every girl seems to own a pair of Reebok classics?

It's all part of the slouch aesthetic of not wanting to look like you care that defines our generation. The truth is the reverse, appearing not to try is the new trying.

But not all sports brands are equal, some are way more try hard than others. Here is our definitive ranking of which sports brands are the most try hard.
