St. John Bosco vs. San Clemente; Mater Dei vs. Mission Viejo; Rancho Verde vs. Alemany; Norco vs. Upland.

Some people might think Venice lost the lottery when it drew the No. 8 seed in the City Section Open Division playoffs, forcing the Gondoliers to play No. 1 Narbonne on Friday night at Narbonne.

Venice is loaded with underclassmen, so this game will give the Gondoliers an idea where they stand for 2019 and beyond. The Gauchos have won four consecutive City championships, and if anyone wants to win a title, you have to eventually go through Narbonne.

Campbell Hall’s Dominique Stone looking to ace the competition one last time

She has only lost three times in her high school career ‘ twice as a freshman, once as a junior. She didn’t drop a set her entire sophomore year. Now, as a senior, Stone is looking to make one last perfect run at a CIF Southern Section title.

Coach’Steve Kuechel has coached tennis for 16 years at Campbell Hall and’thinks Stone might be the best athlete he’s had. He describes her focus like that of a surgeon, neatly dissecting her opponent’s game. Sometimes, he isn’t sure how hard she has to work to dispose of a game in a handful of strokes.
