FRANKENMUTH, MI ‘ Grand Blanc didn’t miss a step in its first season in the Saginaw Valley League.

The Bobcats swept the Richard Leach All-Sports Award, claiming the top spot for both the boys and girls sports, Saginaw Valley League secretary Mike Thayer announced Tuesday at the SVL Preseason Banquet.

‘We came in wanting to represent ourselves well, and our coaches and players did that,’ Grand Blanc athletic director Jerrod Dohm said. ‘After coming from a tumultuous situation in the KLAA (Kensington Lakes Activities Association), joining a league with the history and competitiveness like the Saginaw Valley League was an honor.

Bay City Western sweeps titles at Bay County Cross Country Championship

On a cool fall day that was conducive to running, Bay City Western ran away with both the boys and girls team titles at the annual Bay County Cross Country Championships. The event took place at Delta College, site of Wednesday’s big Saginaw Valley League finale as well as the regionals for Division 1 and Division 2 on Oct. 27.

Western cruised to victory in the Bay County girls event and outdueled defending champion Essexville Garber for top honors in the boys event.

*Bay City Western not only swept the top five places for a perfect score of 15 points but had the next two finishers as well to monopolize the top seven.
