2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport revealed: price, specs and release date

While the Land Rover Discovery Sport has always been more capable off-road than similarly priced prestige rivals ‘ as well as’more versatile, thanks to the option of seven seats ‘ it’s now tackling new ground by going electric.

Specifically, buyers can choose from mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, with the latter due to go on sale late this year and offer a zero-emissions driving range of at least 30 miles. Meet the new Land Rover Discovery Sport

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is the British brand’s best-selling car by quite some way. Yep, while it may seem like there’s an Evoque on every middle-class street corner, it’s the more utilitarian sibling that’s the most popular with punters’worldwide.

This is an important moment then, because what you see above is the brand-new Disco Sport. From first impressions, Land Rover has clearly stuck to the old ‘if it ain’t broke’ mantra. Although that front bumper is certainly trying to remind us why ‘Sport’ is in the name, and there’s even a hint of rear diffuser in the R-Dynamic spec you see in red above. Looks tidy though, doesn’t’it?’

2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport updated with mild hybrid powertrain, more in-car tech

As for style, it’s a little different, but not too much. The front and rear bumpers are new, and to my eyes, a little sportier-lookin’ than before. The grille is different, but I didn’t notice that until I read it in the press release. There are also some new LED lights to further differentiate the refreshed Disco Sport from its forebear.

It might take a keen eye to find the differences, but on the whole, they make for a more premium-looking SUV.

The interior is further gussied up with more premium materials, including a new optional non-leather seat material made from recycled polyester microfiber. You can even spec massaging seats, if you feel like really going for broke. Behind the first row, there are new cup holders and redesigned storage spaces, in addition to extra seat configurability, bringing the total number of available seat configurations to 24.
