Porsche’s contemporary 718 Boxster is a wonderful car that just so happens to share some history with a famous model from the brand’s past: the 718 RSK.

This 1959 RSK, chassis 028, is one of 35 ever built, but one of just six to feature a rare factory option: a switchable seating position that orients the driver either on the traditional left side of the car or smack dab in the middle. Currently set up in its center seating configuration (the passenger seat is included with the car if solo drives aren’t your thing) this is how Porsche stretched the rulebook to allow the RSK entry into period Formula 2 races of the day, creating more wins for an already victorious race car. Porsche Spyders highlighted at Gooding’s Pebble Beach auction

Then along came some spyders, four of them actually, Porsche Spyders that span the decades and will be offered August 24-25 by Gooding & Company at its 15th annual Pebble Beach auction.

They include two desirable competition models from the 1950s, a one-off 1966 custom roadster designed by Bertone, and the first appearance at public auction of a Porsche RS Spyder, one of the German marque’s winningest race cars.’

‘It is truly exciting to have these significant Porsche Spyders, that are not only rare competition or one-off coachbuilt examples, but also represent the lineage of the Porsche Spyder,’ David Gooding, founder and president of the auction company, said in a news release.
