The V-8 Cayenne GTS Sounds Better Than Most New Sports Cars

Up until 2014, Porsche offered the Cayenne GTS with a naturally aspirated V-8. The later cars didn’t have a manual option like the earlier versions, but it still sounded wonderful.

Porsche Cayenne Coupe 2020 Review, Specs, Performance & Price

Porsche is famous for scalpel-sharp sports cars and now it’s honing its SUVs, with thundering performance and superb agility

* * *

Minus Turbo’s price tag; V8 could sound more thunderous; panoramic roof has an intruding rear bulkhead

The Wheels Verdict: Such is the athleticism of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe is that it will hold up beyond most drivers’ abilities. It is incredibly planted to the road and ferociously quick without feeling overdone. It can be sensible and it can be fun, and for a family, it’s about as practical as most SUVs.

It’s time to welcome another swoopy coupe SUV to the ever-expanding crossover segment. You know ’em – those big hulking family transports with a sportier aesthetic that doesn’t always translate to appreciably better dynamics.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S vs. Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

No need for too much preamble here. Clearly it’s a 1319hp Walrus-rut, with tusks and bellowing and the blood of your rival plastered across your chest. Nothing advertises hubris more succinctly than a large, extremely powerful German grand tourer and any car park containing both the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S is four-and-a-half tonnes to the good in Teutonic two-finger salutes. Both are five metres long. Both will whisk you from Stuttgart to Berlin in 12 parsecs. Both cost around five times the national average salary.

Neither, though, feels particularly long for this world. The GT 63 S, with its 639hp 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, comes with the same countdown clock you’d find draped around the cooling tower of a coal-fired British power station. The engine is cutting edge, and the 257g/km CO2 emitting from its tailpipes a triumph considering the monstrous output. But when the environmentalists finally come for the motor car, the notion of a near ‘150k, 98-octane-chugging 4-door Coupe will be their poster child. Technically, you might reasonably call it a masterpiece. Conceptually, though, it’s a dinosaur.

2020 Toyota GR Supra First Drive – Edmunds.com

It’s difficult to say what’s felt longer: The absence of the Toyota Supra from the United States or the anticipation of the new one’s arrival. Regardless, both clocks stop today as we arrive at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia to drive the 2020 Toyota GR Supra.

The GR stands for Gazoo Racing, a motorsports-influenced signature for specialty vehicles that Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda has had personal involvement in developing. Its addition to the Supra moniker means this car is important not just to fans, but to the company as well.

We’ve outlined the hardware ‘ including its BMW roots ‘ and we’ve debated the styling in previous articles and videos. Now it’s time to hop into this two-seat, front-engine, rear-drive coupe and find out how the return of this icon feels from behind the wheel.
