The complete details. Top source.

T he Del Norte boys and girls track and field teams have a brand new head coach this season as former girls basketball and boys tennis coach Jeff Cook takes over the reigns of the track program from former coach Jason Ziegler.

Cook said he has helped out as a volunteer at home track meets in the past, but he doesn’t have a lot of experience with the sport. Luckily longtime assistant coaches Samuel Escobar, Dave Boker and Tom Cochran are able to add a lot of track and field coaching experience to the staff.

‘The three (assistant) coaches that I have, have about 60 years of combined experience,’ Cook said. ‘So they are training me.’

Spencer Dinwiddie proving backup point guards can ball and sell shoes

There’s the one about Allen Iverson, who was one of the players he looked up to while growing up. There are the stories about Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali, two of his non-basketball idols. And then there are the stories about Harriet Tubman, Langston Hughes and Nelson Mandela, three of the most iconic figures in black history.

Each story holds special meaning to Dinwiddie. And each story is being featured on his sneaker line, K8IROS (which, according to Dinwiddie, means the convergence of optimal timing and maximum effort), that launched in December.

In a sneaker-crazed era dominated by brand heavyweights, Dinwiddie has released one of the most talked-about basketball shoes you’ve never heard of. A contradiction, yes, but while you’ve probably seen Dinwiddie’s shoes on various ‘top kicks of the week’ lists, it’s likely you didn’t know much about K8IROS.

The NCS executive committee is meeting via teleconference at 9 a.m. Wednesday to try to craft a solution. Or, more ominously, ‘consider the options of non-completion of the NCS championships in the fall sports of water polo, football and team tennis.’

After the first round of games on Nov. 2-3, eight local schools remain in the running for section football titles and possible advancement to the California Interscholastic Federation state championships.
